The Government Procurement Rules support sustainable and inclusive procurement through the promotion of good practices for procurement planning, approaching the supplier community and contracting.
A key focus of the Rules is the importance of open competition – giving all businesses the chance to participate, and giving them enough time to respond to opportunities properly. They also help to align New Zealand procurement practices with international best practices, encourage more strategic procurement approaches, foster competition and innovation, resulting in better solutions, and promote broader environmental, social, cultural and economic outcomes.
Increasing the size and skills of the construction sector refers to considering how you can partner with suppliers and others to improve construction sector skills and training over the long term.

“Scholarships for Scholars” Campaign
The Scholarships for Scholars Campaign, launched by Henderson Demolition in partnership with Vertical Horizonz and the Maori and Pasifika Trades Training (MPTT), offers a unique opportunity to provide scholarships for our workers, especially Tongan, Samoan, and Māori employees, to gain an NZQA-approved Level 3 Certificate in Construction Pre-Trade (High Work).
This program focuses on face-to-face training, safety practices, and extensive work experience. Participants receive hands-on instruction in safe work practices, height safety, scaffolding, forklift operation, and first aid, with 338 hours of verified work experience. By the end of 2024, 19 workers have successfully graduated, with the intention to eventually qualify the whole operations team.
Te Ara ki te Kaha - The Path to Strength
We are excited to announce a new initiative in collaboration with Solomon Group aimed at improving the numeracy, literacy, and leadership skills of our team. Utilising over $150,000 in funding across 2025, this program will enhance communication and leadership across our operations. The initiative targets employees in key operational roles, such as drivers, operations staff, and administrative teams, and is designed to address internal communication challenges and upskill our workforce.
The training covers essential areas such as effective communication, Health and Safety compliance, financial and digital literacy, and wellbeing/stress management. It ensures that our team members, particularly those without tertiary qualifications, receive practical and transferable skills that support both their professional development and the company's operations.
