WE ARE
HENDERSON DEMOLITION
Founded in 1999, Henderson Demolition is the vision of Glenn Henderson, a Māori-born entrepreneur with a passion for building his own business. Glenn had been working in demolition for several years before recognizing a gap in the market. He wanted to create a family-owned demolition company that prioritized safety, precision, and efficiency while delivering exceptional results. With this goal in mind, he and his wife, Joan, established Glenn Henderson Demolition.
Starting small with a handful of dedicated employees, the company initially focused on "strip-out" work, removing interiors to prepare spaces for new fit-outs. Over time, the business began to grow, and so did its scope. Residential and small commercial demolitions were added to the list of services, followed by larger, more complex projects. The company’s growth was driven by a commitment to building strong client relationships and investing in state-of-the-art machinery to tackle any job, no matter the size or complexity.
By 2007, Glenn Henderson Demolition had already made a name for itself as a reliable and innovative company. That year, Glenn brought on Rikki Jones, a marine engineer, as the new general manager. Rikki's leadership played a key role in expanding the company’s capabilities, helping to win several high-profile tenders in 2008 and 2009. These projects, including significant work at Auckland Airport and Middlemore Hospital, cemented Glenn Henderson Demolition’s reputation for taking on jobs that other companies might shy away from due to their technical or logistical challenges.
As the workload grew, so did the company. Henderson Demolition continued to invest in new technology and skilled staff, and by 2018, Glenn and Joan Henderson were ready to retire. They passed the leadership baton to Rikki, who became the chief executive officer and transitioned the company from Glenn Henderson Demolition to the simpler, Henderson Demolition. Rikki had already been part of the company for over a decade, and he was the perfect person to continue its legacy of growth and innovation.
Under Rikki's guidance, Henderson Demolition has grown to employ over 70 people, with additional contract staff brought in as needed. The company has successfully navigated challenges, including the economic impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic, by maintaining its core values of hard work, teamwork, and dedication. As Rikki often says, "We don't strive to be the biggest. We actively strive to be the best."
Despite its growth, Henderson Demolition has maintained the values of a family-run business. Glenn and Joan’s influence is still felt in the company’s culture today, with many of the original team members from 1999 still working with the company. This low staff turnover is a testament to the strong relationships and sense of loyalty that define Henderson Demolition.
As the company moves into the future, Henderson Demolition remains focused on growth, innovation, and maintaining the strong relationships it has built with clients and employees alike. With a team of highly skilled professionals, state-of-the-art equipment, and a commitment to safety and sustainability, Henderson Demolition is well-positioned to continue its legacy of excellence in the demolition industry. Whether you need a garden shed removed or a multi-storey building taken down, Henderson Demolition has the expertise, experience, and dedication to get the job done right.
